I have to say, I live on Amazon, looking for the authors out there that no one makes a big deal about. You find that really good book and it's like finding a treasure. I found that with this book. I don't understand how only 14 people reviewed this book. I'm so happy I found this. This is a true author!!! Yes, there is some editing mistakes, but it didn't distract from the story. The story was awesome!! The romance and connection between Kayla and Nick was intense and perfect. I can't wait to start reading the 2nd book.Good Luck Ms. Loren with your wonderful new series. Hopefully the word gets around. I will be purchasing all your books. Every woman loves a bad boy and wants to always be the one to change him and it has to be a very strong woman to accomplish that, you did that with the character, Kayla. The bad boy image always works and you made sure to always keep up with Nick's image, but softened him up when it came to Kayla. Looking foward to reading all your books.

There were some surprises along the way, but this series isn't really believable. The main character always walks away unharmed while the world around him is full of killing. There has got to be a stray bullet at some point! I finished the second book and I think I am done. I can't keep the people straight and found myself trying to read back and get things straight. New mobsters always come to light throughout the books as opponents are killed off, but why weren't they a problem before?!
I am all for a faster-paced novel, but it seems there is no build up to events. I wasn't really on the edge of my seat like I have been with some other ones.
The sex scenes are anything but steamy. It seems almost like a part of the plot. They are inserted to show that the main character is feisty.
I liked the book because it was dark, and I am a sucker for a bad boy that falls in love with the main character. And I absolutely love that the main character doesn't take things sitting down. She is feisty and tough, which is a breath of fresh air compared to some romances, where the love interest always rescues the chick.
Overall, it was a 4 - the second book was a 2, so between the two I give it a 3/5 stars.
I love Nick and Kayla. They are both really strong characters and while the start of them isn’t the cleanest and more romantic, it is them. It shows the type of people they are and I loved it. I wouldn’t call this dark but it definitely isn’t light either. It’s a mafia type read maybe? Mob? Something. Nick is one bad mofo and together they are a power duo. I won’t give details but I’ve read this a few times over the years and always find it enjoyable. On to book 2. 4 stars #2OCCJD
I almost didn't read this book because of the bad reviews on . There were more good than bad reviews but the bad ones had me thinking that this book wasn't for me. Boy was I wrong! The story of Alex and Kayla is a must read. I'm a huge fan of romance novels that have a criminal element. That's what first drew my attention to the book. I love the fact that Alex makes no apologies for his criminal lifestyle. He got in the game to do what he had to do to survive. Some of the reviews led me to believe that Alex was an unredeemable character that had no morals, and that's just not the case. Alex and Kayla are complex people. Ms. Loren does and excellent job in developing these characters and showing that the world they live in is not black or white, right or wrong, but that grey area in between. Now there we're a couple of unbelievable moments, like when Alex and Kayla have sex for the first time and they didn't use a condom. I know that this is fiction, but because of the line of work that Kayla is, and because of Alex's man whore ways, I find it hard to believe that a condom wouldn't be used without a trip to the doctor first. If you like dark erotic romance then you should read this book.
Before I explain about this book, I need state something for the record here. I downloaded the sample on my kindle app a few weeks ago, with the intent of reading it. I cannot for the life of me remember where I heard of this and where. Anyway, a few days ago, I started to get sick and was up all night, and thought, well, why not give this book a try and see. I started reading the sample and ended up buying the book as soon as I finished. One of the things I value about my marriage is we rarely buy things without the others approval first. A book here and there is nothing, but considering that I bought $200 worth of books with tax return, I promised I wouldn't buy anymore. I've been buying digital books.
It shocked my husband when he got up at 6am, and asked what I did all night and I told him I bought the book. $4 big deal! I hear some of you say, but the fact I bought it without asking, the fact that I couldn't wait for him to get in two hours before reading more, should tell you something about this book.
HOT DAMN! I love this book! I was glued from the instant I read the first page. I couldn't stop. I literally fought against the flu bug I had by reading this book. I fought sleeping to read this book.
Kayla is out for revenge. Her sister who took care of her killed herself, and Kayla believes there is only one man. Her sisters ex boyfriend Nick. For years Kayla has planned, worked, and calculated for the moment that she would stand before him, tall and proud, and extract her revenge. What she didn't expect was Nick's reaction to her and the truth of their past causes her to falter. It's a must read! Jennifer Loren is an amazing writer and keeps you on the edge of your seat with suspense and lip licking sexy scenes that make you want to grab your partner and run to the bedroom with them.
I've already informed my husband when he gets paid, he can get the game he wants, but I'm getting my books. ^_^ I plan to buy the rest of the series, digital and paper back!
